Is it all pointless? I mean, why choose to eat vegan meals and/or live a vegan lifestyle? Shouldn’t you just go with the flow and eat whatever? Nothing possibly good could come of this right?
Questions like this come up, so I’m doing my part to educate myself a little more about the “why” behind vegan choices and potential reasons for living a lifestyle that avoids consuming animal products for ethical reasons. They are as follows*
- Saving water: A typical vegan meal uses less water than a meal containing beef. For example, a meal of tofu, rice, and vegetables takes about 98 gallons of water to produce, while 4 ounces of beef on the other hand, takes about 3000 gallons to produce. Saving water helps the whole world, and especially people in need, because many still lack access to fresh water.
- Saving resources and putting them to better use: Cattle consumes more energy than any other crop. They eat up to 16 times more grain than anything else out there. Comparatively, one pound of beef can feed a family for one day, while a pound of grain can feed them much longer (up to a week)
Both of these things, I feel, help with the current climate crisis and food scarcity & poverty (the reason I started this 60 day challenge). Even if it’s just a little bit, it feels good to at least know I’m trying to do something, and it reminds me of the less fortunate every time I take a bite to eat.
The food also happens to be pretty good, and I’m enjoying a whole different world of food now! Pictured here is my lunch from “The Loving Hut” in Tempe, AZ. I was really impressed with the food & quality-and they were pretty affordable too! I only spent around $8 for my meal. If you’re ever in the area, check them out, and if not, look for a mom & pop near you and support them! They’ll appreciate it a lot more than a chain, where they don’t know your name. Cheers!😄😂❤️✌🏾️ *info used came from picture inside the restaurant.
