The Loving Hut; vegan meal 9 days into my 60 day commitment

Is it all pointless? I mean, why choose to eat vegan meals and/or live a vegan lifestyle? Shouldn’t you just go with the flow and eat whatever? Nothing possibly good could come of this right?

Questions like this come up, so I’m doing my part to educate myself a little more about the “why” behind vegan choices and potential reasons for living a lifestyle that avoids consuming animal products for ethical reasons. They are as follows*

  1. Saving water: A typical vegan meal uses less water than a meal containing beef. For example, a meal of tofu, rice, and vegetables takes about 98 gallons of water to produce, while 4 ounces of beef on the other hand, takes about 3000 gallons to produce. Saving water helps the whole world, and especially people in need, because many still lack access to fresh water.
  2. Saving resources and putting them to better use: Cattle consumes more energy than any other crop. They eat up to 16 times more grain than anything else out there. Comparatively, one pound of beef can feed a family for one day, while a pound of grain can feed them much longer (up to a week)

Both of these things, I feel, help with the current climate crisis and food scarcity & poverty (the reason I started this 60 day challenge). Even if it’s just a little bit, it feels good to at least know I’m trying to do something, and it reminds me of the less fortunate every time I take a bite to eat.

The food also happens to be pretty good, and I’m enjoying a whole different world of food now! Pictured here is my lunch from “The Loving Hut” in Tempe, AZ. I was really impressed with the food & quality-and they were pretty affordable too! I only spent around $8 for my meal. If you’re ever in the area, check them out, and if not, look for a mom & pop near you and support them! They’ll appreciate it a lot more than a chain, where they don’t know your name. Cheers!😄😂❤️✌🏾️ *info used came from picture inside the restaurant. For the local businesses and all the people out there working who are independent!!❤️

Coming back off a 3 day weekend, can sometimes feel a little rough. You come back to whatever emails, voicemails, and work drama that you left behind in the bliss of some well deserved time off; people who have worked on that corporate treadmill-while chasing their dreams at the same time (😀), know EXACTLY what I’m talking about. Call it a time-off hangover!😂
However, when the work is done, then I can do MY work. And my work, doesn’t feel like work. So with a smile on my face, I wanted to share this photo with you and my prayer for you to have a blessed week. Especially for the single moms and people grindin’ out there on your own; I know it’s not easy, and I respect the hustle. I’m right there with you!❤️
I also wanted to give a special shoutout and thank you to HQ Vape & Smoke Shop in Tempe, AZ! Let me tell you a little bit more of why I am doing this.
One: they are always so nice, and the people who work there are awesome!
Two: they don’t just sell stuff for people who smoke. They sell affordable posters, zippo lighters, and home decor inside!😀 However, it wouldn’t be unreasonable to think that they just sell tobacco and smoking accessories; the reality is that they are so much more than that!!
You wouldn’t think it if you looked just on the outside, but when you look past it, you see what is so much lovelier than the cover.😊 Maybe this is why the wisdom which says: “Do not judge outward appearances, but instead, make the effort to look at the what is unseen” has held true for millennia.
Why am I saying this? Because I’m sure you (like myself) have looked at some local business you have never been to before, and instead opted to go to a chain that you were more comfortable or familiar with. It’s only natural right? However, when we look past the exterior, and how we have all been conditioned to judge people by age, wealth, outward status symbols, etc; you end up being surprised how wrong your snap judgments were and are often rewarded for making the effort. That being said, I hope you’ll consider stopping by that local business in your neighborhood and supporting them whatever way you can!!❤️✌🏾️ #theblackaesthete #photography #supportsmallbusiness #fashion #fashionblog #writer #writersofinstagram #tempe #arizona

The day before my 60 day vegan fast (starting tomorrow!😀) at True Food Kitchen

This look appetizing to you?!😀 So, you already know I love art, but I recently stumbled across a page on Instagram (you can check mine out @jeanrusset 😉), and it had amazing pictures of food that were so well done. The person who posted the images referred to them as art. It made me think about how the artistry is sometimes overlooked in meal preparation. I know I’ve done it; often, I’m rushing to even have a meal in between appointments! Lol! However, I’m making a commitment to try and slow down and appreciate the blessing of having food to eat. There are others who aren’t as fortunate or able to eat a nice meal like this (I was one of ’em last year!!😂).

This ties nicely into a 60 day vegan fast I’m starting tomorrow. You’re welcome to do it with me, and I’ll be posting stories about my experience on my blog: http://www.theblackaesthete.com.😊

However, before I go 60 days without any meat or animal products, I am going to kick it off with some healthful fare from True Food Kitchen!😄 After all, 60 days is a long time people, and I gotta get it while I can!😂

The location I visited today is at the Biltmore Plaza in Phoenix. They have lots of vegan friendly and vegetarian options on the menu, and the service is very good. I’d recommend you check them out if you are ever in the area. Its worth paying a little more for quality when you can, ya know?😊

In addition to quality, you can see that they placed a fair amount of attention into presentation here also. For your viewing, I have a few photos I took of my lunch today: cauliflower green curry soup, grass-fed bison burger (with gluten free bun), and sweet potato hash. Bon appetit!!😄 #TrueFoodKitchen #foodphotography #photography #photographer #arizona #Phoenix #Biltmore #restaurants

Fashion history trip😄

Took this photo at one of my favorite places in the world: the art museum!! This caught my eye back during the “Defining Moments; Fifty Years Of Fashion” exhibit there a month or so go. Seeing things like this was like a virtual time-warp; it made me imagine what it was like to dress like this. I wonder how much something like this would cost nowadays? Probably a lot because this Livery dating to 1825 (made of wool), was gifted to the #PhoenixArtMuseum by Miss Carolanne Smurthwaight, and its totally museum worthy. I very much appreciate her benevolence that made it possible for me to see this work of art!😀🙏🏾 What if all your clothes were so good that they could be put up in a museum for people to see them? LOL😂 They’d have to be pretty stellar-like what is seen in this image. Enjoy! #art #fashion #fashionblogger #style #English #British #design #history #artlover #phoenix #Arizona

Skull-Lady💀👽 A poem?

The light shone in on an empty room. The rays were late afternoon rays; I call them that because where we live in the desert-you appreciate them because they aren’t as harsh as the early afternoon rays. Those are meaner and pricklier. They’re like the older guy at the end of the bar taking straight shots of a liquor that men tremble in fear at when there is the mere mention of it. He’s one tough son of a gun, in other words-and he’s got a snowwhite mustache like a kinda biker/Gandalf barstool!😂

I’d like to grow old & be stylish at the same time. Who says you can’t? I’m thinking these thoughts as I look out over the balcony. I’m outside now, and it feels like a warm sauna. For some reason, my body doesn’t mind the sunrays aggressive shots of light piercing my skin. In fact, it almost feels like it’s some sort of ointment.

Too much is no good for you, so I go back inside, and I sit back down. This time-in my Dad’d chair.😊 This is where he would sit if he were here visiting. Somehow, he was able to go to sleep easily while sitting in an average, everyday chair!😂 I wish I could do that. You think about your family in strange ways when you are away from them sometimes.😊

I turn around, and I see a lady with a skull-face peeping over my shoulder. She’s got her head held up confidently, but with a little attitude. “That I like!”-like Scarface says when he’s on the dancefloor with Elvira (Michelle Pfiefer☺️❤️💙). So anyway, like I was sayin’, I dig how this girl is holding her head up.😊 She’s tough. I know this. I also know that she has some pearls on, and it makes me wonder how she got ahold of them. Legally? Illegally? Who knows?

Her face is painted up like Bowie. I think that is probably why I liked her style so much; it’s like it is a blend of a lot of different things: class, taste, style, socioeconomic status.

At least, I imagine it so.😂

❤️✌🏾️

Love never fails☺️

People fail.
Children fail their parents-parents their children.
Banks fail.
Governments fail.
The people you love will fail you.
But love?
Love does NOT fail.
Never.
Ever ever.😂❤️

Lets take Monday by storm. We cannot fail with love in our hearts.☺️💖🙏🏾 [ photo taken this past weekend in downtown #Tucson #Arizona ] #art #streetart #photography #photographer #writer #blogger #poerty #love #heart

Victor Vasarely’s “Tridim”

Is this what a rubix cube looks like if you sliced it open? Hahaha😂

A stepped way back so that I could see all of it, and the result is a pretty good view of one of Victor Vasrely’s works from 1976. Neato colors! They said “neato” in the 70s right? Lol

Definitely a whole ‘nother level of amazing in person with it.☺️ *seen at the Phoenix Art Museum* #art #VictorVasrely #French and #Hungarian #artist #contemporaryart #beauty #acrylic #linen #writer #blogger
